An Exhibit of Work by Anne Gibbons
As a cartoonist, the point is to find the simplest way to get to the point. It’s been an interesting journey for me to explore painting, where a circuitous route more interesting, and I’m not even sure there’s a point to speak of. I found myself drawn to painting a series of family photos because they were so interesting to look at, so evocative of the world I grew up in.
Here are a few photos and samples from my show at An Beal Bocht, a wonderful Irish pub in Riverdale. The paintings and cartoons are on exhibit for the month of April.
My maternal grandmother, Bridget Kiefer, nee Carney, a “Have Not” in Ireland, who came alone to the United States in her late teens to make a better life for herself. She settled in Brooklyn, NY.
